On the afternoon of August 27, at the invitation of Professor He Wei , professor Hoon Cheol Park, President of ISIUS and Konkuk University, gave an academic presentation entitled "Kubeetle-insect-like Tailless Flapping-Wing Robot: design to Flight" in conference room 518 of the electromechanical information building. The lecture was hosted by Fu Qiang.Professor He Wei, Associate Professor Sun Liang, associate professor Zhang Haojie, faculty members and more than 20 doctoral and master's degree students attended the lecture.
During the presentation, Professor Hoon Cheol Park shared his experience in developing bioinspired flapping-wing flying robots.First, Professor Hoon Cheol Park introduced a miniature flapping wing robot, called KUBethel, which was designed by his team to simulate the flapping wing of a rhinoceros beetle. Then, Professor Hoon Cheol Park proposed a new flapping mechanism for the difference between insect and bird flight. The flapping angle of the flapping wings was more than 180 degrees Aiming at the problem that there was no control surface in the tail of insects, several feasible mechanisms were proposed, including the flapping angle changing mechanism, the trailing edge changing mechanism and the stroke plane changing mechanism, so as to realize the differential control of the left and right wings, thus the control moment of attitude control is produced. Finally, Professor Hoon Cheol Park looks forward to the future of ornithopter flying robot.
During the question-and-answer session, the teachers and students of the School of Automation actively asked questions, and Professor Hoon Cheol Park answered them one by one.In this lecture, Professor Hoon Cheol Park had a cordial academic exchange with the teachers and students of the Automation Institute. He won warm applause from the teachers and students with his serious attitude and humorous language, and cited their own research results and practical experience to give us enlightenment, so that the teachers and students of the Institute of Automation to further broaden their academic horizons.
Brief introduction of professor Hoon Cheol Park:
Dr. Hoon Cheol Park is currently professor at Department of Smart Vehicle Engineering, Konkuk University, Seoul, Korea. His recent research mainly focuses on biomimetics and bio-inspired flight. His research team published about 95 SCI/SCIE journal papers on design and demonstration of bird/insect-mimicking flying robots, locust-mimicking jumping plus flight robot, and fish-mimicking swimming. He also published about 20 papers on artificial muscle actuators such as piezoelectric bending actuators, single-crystal stack actuators, and ionic polymer-metal composites(IPMC). He has been the editorial board member of Journal of Bionic Engineering since 2007 and the associate editor of International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems since 2013. He also served Korea Society of Mechanical Engineers, Division of Bioengineering as president in 2015 and as vice president for several years. As an international activity, he is currently leading International Society of Intelligent Unmanned Systems (ISIUS) as president (2017-2019). His research team was recognized as the most active team in biomimetic flying robot research through review papers published in International Journal of Micro Air Vehicles in 2015 and 2017.
