Kick-off and Training Meeting for the 14th Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition

To provide a platform for young teachers to grow and improve their teaching abilities, and to prepare for the university’s 14th Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition, the School of Automation Labor Union and the Teaching Development Center jointly held the kick-off and training meeting for the 14th Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition on September 20 in Room 1104 of the Electromechanical Building. Attendees included Li Qing, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Automation; Li Xisheng, Vice Dean; Teng Lili, Chair of the Labor Union and Vice Dean; Shi Xuefei from the Teaching Development Center; Liu Yan, member of the Labor Union Committee; and all young faculty members. The meeting was chaired by Teng Lili.

At the beginning of the meeting, Li Qing delivered a mobilization speech, emphasizing the importance of the competition and offering valuable advice to young teachers. He noted that participants should carefully select teaching content, ensure logical teaching design, and produce rigorous courseware to enhance both teaching effectiveness and competitiveness. He encouraged teachers to prepare with confidence and attention to detail, integrating ideological education and research achievements into their teaching design to enrich course content. Li urged young teachers to seize the opportunity to showcase their teaching skills and style.

The training session featured two guest speakers: Zhang Tianyao from the Department of Instrumentation Science and Technology, winner of the second prize in the 13th Beijing University Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition, and Feng Tao from the Fundamental Science Experimental Center, winner of the first prize in the University of Science and Technology Beijing Experimental Teaching Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition.

Zhang Tianyao shared his experience and methods from three perspectives: competition goals, preparation process with case analysis, and the connection between the competition and daily teaching. He emphasized the importance of thoroughly understanding the competition rules and evaluation criteria, carefully preparing teaching content, and demonstrated through examples how to use teaching aids, multimedia tools, and interactive teaching methods to improve effectiveness, providing valuable insights for young teachers.

Feng Tao shared his experience from the perspective of experimental teaching, outlining the characteristics, preparation strategies, and key takeaways of experimental teaching competitions. He summarized that successful preparation requires concise and well-designed content and format, smooth delivery, precise timing, and consistent practice to maintain control and confidence during the competition.

Following the presentations, Liu Yan, the competition organizer, explained the participation requirements, schedule, content, evaluation, and awards for this year’s competition.

Finally, Li Xisheng emphasized that the Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition provides an important platform for young teachers to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and grow together. Through “learning by competition” and “improving through competition,” the event helps enhance teaching ability and improve instructional quality.

The successful convening of this kick-off and training meeting created a strong atmosphere for the 14th Young Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition at the School of Automation, inspiring enthusiasm among young teachers. With the school’s strong support and active participation from all young faculty members, the competition is expected to achieve great success and inject new vitality into the school’s teaching endeavors.
