IEEE SMC Beijing Capital Region Chapter Seminar by Professor MengChu Zhou of New Jersey Institute of Technology

On the morning of May 19, at the invitation of Professor Zhijie Liu, Professor MengChu Zhou, gave an academic presentation entitled " Performing Quality Research and Writing Quality Papers" through Tencent Conference. The lecture was hosted by Zhijie Liu. faculty members and more than 50 doctoral and master's degree students attended the lecture.

During the presentation, Professor MengChu Zhou shared his experience in how to perform high-quality research (especially Master thesis and doctoral dissertation related one) and write high-quality (easily-accepted) technical papers in English. Professor MengChu Zhou  considered many students are sometimes wondering how to conduct their research and write quality technical papers; while faculty members may have questions about how to supervise their students. First, by learning from many other professionals including students, professors, engineers, managers and business leaders, Professor MengChu Zhou shared with the audience the speaker’s important lessons and useful experience through many real-life examples. Most of them are based on what the speaker has gained as a doctoral student, faculty member, listener of many talks, and reader/reviewer/editor of numerous papers, theses, books and proposals for three decades. Professor MengChu Zhou also summarized many common English errors and presentation problems we faculty and students tend to make. Finally, Professor MengChu Zhou indicated some critical points regarding how to become a responsible, contributing and happy professional and how to make the scientific and technological contributions to benefit human beings.

During the question-and-answer session, the teachers and students of the School of Automation actively asked questions, and Professor MengChu Zhou answered them one by one. In this lecture, Professor MengChu Zhou had a cordial academic exchange with the teachers and students of the Automation Institute. He cited their own research results and practical experience to give us enlightenment, so that the teachers and students of the Institute of Automation to further have a deeper understanding of how to conduct high-quality research and how to write high-quality technical papers in English. Finally, the report will be completed in the thunderous applause of all the teachers and students.
